District Training in Mathematics

Welcome to the Kansas State Department of Education's site for Mathematics training options available to districts across the state.

Effective professional development will enable educators to develop the necessary content knowledge and skills to address the ever growing challenges we face with students. Student learning of mathematics "depends fundamentally on what happens inside the classroom as teachers and learners interact over the curriculum."

For more information as to why professional development is essential for educators please read Why Professional Development Matters by Learning Forward.

There are many factors to consider when requesting a math training for your district:

  • Targeted Audience
  • Intended Outcome
  • Time Frame Available
  • Delivery Method
  • Cost
  • Necessary Followup
KSDE is dedicated to assisting districts in this process and offer many avenues to achieve high quality instruction in the area of mathematics.

It is important to note that any training request for less than four hours may be delivered via an online platform as this would be more of an informational presentation as opposed to a professional development opportunity.

A district may not contact the trainer directly to schedule an event, they need to complete the KSDE District Training Request Form. This provides KSDE with official documentation and is part of our contract agreement with trainers.

Training Request Form

Prior to completing the request form it is recommended that a district complete the following steps:

  1. Review the content found in the Effective Kansas Mathematics Standards Implementation Process Guide
  2. Request the Mathematical Content and Confidence Survey from Melissa Fast mfast@ksde.org after the review of the process guide is complete.
  3. Have teachers complete the Mathematical Content and Confidence Survey.
  4. Request the Diagnostic Assessment to Effective Mathematics Standards Implementation from Melissa Fast mfast@ksde.org after the review of the process guide is complete.
  5. Complete the Diagnostic Assessment to Effective Mathematics Standards Implementation to determine the professional learning needs of your staff.
